U.S. Peace Corps Inspires to Change

Workshop “Project Design and Management” was organized in Vinnytsia by U.S. Peace Corps in Ukraine for volunteers and their counterparts  (February 28th-March 3rd).   During 4 days we were able to expand our knowledge and get new experience in designing and managing different projects: project cycle, goals, objectives, action plan, PACA, assessment, and evaluation, teamwork, SPA program, budget, resources etc. As a result of 4-days work, a volunteer and his counterpart had presented the project idea. Besides, there were presentations of some successful projects of SPA program. I should mention that cross-cultural communication was also very effective.

Educators' Trip to Minnesota, USA

In October – November 2016 I visited Minnesota, the USA, as a member of Zolotonosha Educators’ Team.  The main purpose of this trip was to reflect upon last year’s summer camp and make necessary changes and implement new ideas into next year’s ESL Camp 2017. We’ve come up with a camp name, refined new curriculum, set schedules. Moreover, I’ve participated in a variety of professional development activities that included: school visits, a tour in Biz Town at Junior Achievement Center, Science Museum, Innovation Lab, interviews of candidates for summer internship program and learning seminars. The topics of the seminars were the following: “Visible Thinking” based on Harvard Thinking Routines by Dan Swensen Ph.D. and Jay B.Rasmunssen Ph.D.; series of “Essential Practices for L2 Learning” by  Sarah Tahtinen-Pacheco, Associate professor of TESL/TEFL/Teacher Education Director of TESL/TEFL Program, Bethel University.

Never Stop Learning Since You've Become a Teacher!

English Teachers as Change Agents

The "English Teachers as Change Agents" program developed jointly by the British Council and GoGlobal public initiative within the framework of the national "Україна Speaking" campaign has started. The 1st phase of training took place in the period of 21-26 February 2016 in Cherkassy. The aim was to improve English teachers’ classroom practice, namely lesson planning, managing the lesson, understanding learning and teaching, teaching skills and CPD.

The week of training was extremely interesting and useful for me. During the week of training, we discussed main concepts as well as practical guidance on lesson planning, explored classroom strategies to make lessons more efficiently and motivate our students, identified the qualities of a motivational teacher and characteristics of motivated learners. We've focused on low-level and high-level thinking skills and investigated the ways to develop these skills in our students and identified the tips for developing critical thinking.
Facilitators of this program engaged us into a variety of activities (energizers, agree/disagree line, mingling, role-play, project work, etc.) for us to be able to mind main concepts and put new strategies into practice.
It should be mentioned that general atmosphere of the training course was very friendly and reliable. All the participants are inspired with new ideas to implement them in teaching and share this experience with other teachers of English.

Seminars "Jolly Phonics"
Coral George

In February 2016 I' ve got a wonderful opportunity to attend seminars "Jolly Phonics" by an experienced teacher, trainer, and facilitator from Great Britain Coral  George. She presented the program of teaching English of young learners.  It helped me to look at teaching especially in elementary school from a different angle. I started to implement new techniques in my class and influence my learners on visual, oral and kinesthetic levels.  Fun actions, delightful illustrations, interesting stories engage children into a process of learning unconsciously.
These courses had a great impact on my professional development. They helped me to re-evaluate all my previous teaching experience. It was like a breath of fresh air in my development as a teacher of English.

Workshops "Methodology: Back to Basics"
Lana Sushko "SOVA" Community

In November - December 2014 I had an opportunity to attended a couple of workshops for teachers of English. It was really great and unexpected. Training was full of very crucial and fascinating information for me. All participants were engaged in a variety of activities which are useful for primary and senior students. I've got a lot of practical pieces of advice concerning teaching: speaking practice, controlled practice, teaching unplugged, teaching technology.
